1 Look at the photographs. What do you think this article is about?
2 3.13 Listen and read. Why are some sea animals in trouble?

             Life Below Water: Endangered!

There is a lot of amazing wildlife living under the water.
But because of human actions, many species are in trouble.
             Let’s look at three animals.

               Manatees
Manatees are large water mammals. You can also
call them “sea cows.” They like to swim in shallow
seas and waterways. They eat a plant called
seagrass. Sadly, boats often hit the manatees.
Pollution from farms and towns coming into the
               water also hurts the manatees.

               Loggerhead Turtles
Loggerhead turtles have that name because of their
large heads. They live in oceans all over the world.
Many loggerhead turtles get hurt because they get
stuck in fishing nets. They can also get sick from
eating plastic bags. They think the bags are jellyfish.
               Bluefin Tuna
Bluefins are the largest kind of tuna fish. They can
grow to be three meters long! But they are also a
popular kind of food. Today, many people use large
nets to catch them. Before, they used fishing poles
instead. People catch so many bluefins that we don’t
have many left in the ocean.

Though many species are in danger, there are also
many people around the world working hard to protect
them. That’s why the United Nations has a goal called How can you help?
             Life Below Water.
